New Engine-Rescue arrives

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, QSFD took delivery of their new Engine-Rescue truck.  The truck has been designated as ER-493. 

 

ER-493 has a 2007 Spartan Advantage Chassis with a 6-man cab.  The truck carries 1000 gallons of water and has a Darley pump that can move 1250 gallons of water per minute.  ER-493 is equipped with a 9 kilowatt hydraulic generator and will carry a Genesis Jaws-of-Life, 1000 feet of 5" hose, 500 feet of 3" hose, ice rescue equipment, a thermal imaging camera, farm rescue equipment and a landing zone radio and GPS. 

 

The truck was purchased from Wilde Fire Equipment Company in Mayfield, NY and has been in the planning stages since 2006.

 

Through careful planning and budgeting on the part of the QSFD Board of Fire Commissioners, this truck was purchased with no debt incurred.

2008 Annual banquet

The members of the Quaker Springs Fire Department and the members of the Quaker Springs Fire Department Auxiliary gathered on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the American Legion Hall in Schuylerville for their Annual Banquet.  Dinner was served by the Legion.  Entertainment was provided by Comedian/Magician Zinnie Mark and by DJ Service Happy Days Again.

 

Firefighters John Stiassney, George Cassier, Chris Miller, Sean Dooley, Jeff Dooley, Don Parker, Denny Wood, Joe Cichacki, Steve Bodnar and Stanley Bialahoski were recognized for service anniversaries.  Auxiliary members Jean Connolly, Vera Peck, Pam Hall, Heather Stiassney and Rose Thivierge were also recognized for service anniversaries.

 

Town Supervisor Tom Wood awarded the Town of Saratoga Emergency Service Award to firefighter Leon Derby for his many years of service and dedication to the department.

 

John Hoogeveen and Dave Poltynski received recognition awards for outstanding service in 2007 and John Stiassney received the Chief's Award for dedicated service and outstanding effort in 2007. 


Firefighters Mark Connolly, John Hoogeveen, Don Ormsby, John Stiassney and Sean Dooley were recognized for each earning over 100 LOSAP points in 2007 and firefighter Don Parker was recognized for responding to 81% of the fire alarms in 2007.

Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner a Huge Success

The members of the Quaker Springs Fire Department Auxiliary and the Quaker Springs Fire Department hosted a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the firehouse on Blodgett Road in Quaker Springs. 

 

The traditional dinner included delicious lean corned beef, carrots, cabbage and potatoes.  A variety of homemade pies and cakes were available to satisfy everyone's taste for dessert.  Approximately 170 adults and 25 children attended the dinner.  John Vance won first place in the 50/50 drawing and Joe Derby won 2nd place in the drawing and received a free dinner. 

 

QSFD and the Auxiliary would like to thank the community for their support of this annual fund-raising event.

 


 

Eleven Firefighters attend MacBoston 18 Truck training

MacBoston 18 Truck presented a Firefighter Training Seminar on Saturday, February 9th, 2008 at South Glens Falls' Station 2.  The first half of the seminar addressed Surviving on the Fire-ground.  The second half of the seminar taught Fire Officer Leadership Skills - such as leadership, management and supervision.   Eleven firefighters from QSFD attended the training seminar.


 

Quaker Springs Fire District Election

Town of Saratoga, NY (December 12, 2007) Voters in the Quaker Springs Fire District re-elected Jim Burke to a five-year term as Fire Commissioner. 58 voters turned out at the Quaker Springs Firehouse returning the incumbent unanimously.

 

Also on the ballot was the public vote for a resolution to issue Serial Bonds in the amount of $600,000 to finance the construction of a fire sub-station on Route 9P.  This resolution passed by a 56 to 2 vote.  Construction of the sub-station is expected to begin in the Spring.

 


 

Quaker Springs Fire Department Open House

Town of Saratoga, NY (April 8, 2007) --- The Quaker Springs Fire Department held an Open House on Saturday April 28 from Noon to 4 pm at the Fire House on Blodgett Road off Route 32 in the Town of Saratoga.


The Fire Department opened its doors to the community and offered a variety of educational programs, demonstrations, and fun activities for the entire family to enjoy. Among the many displays and events were a presentation of the department’s fire trucks including department's original fire truck which was built in the 1940s and hands on fire extinguisher practice.  Guests viewed demonstrations from the Fire Department’s Auto Extrication tools at 3 pm.  Information was also available regarding the District’s plan for a new fire sub-station near Saratoga Lake. General Schuyler Emergency Squad had displays and provided free blood pressure screenings.  There was free food and additional entertainment for the entire family.

 

The Quaker Springs Fire Department encourages community members to attend these free events, and to educate yourself and family about fire safety.
