Joint Training

During a stand-by assignment at Gansevoort in December 2009, members of QSFD and Maple Avenue Fire Department had an opportunity to meet and decided to hold a couple joint drills.  Maple Ave joined Quaker Springs for a Farm Rescue drill on April 15 (classroom) and April 17 (hands-on). On April 22 Maple Ave Brought their ladder truck to the Quaker Springs main station and demonstrated ladder truck operations.

It was a great learning experience for both company's.  Intra County drills like this benefit the firefighters and the districts they serve.

On Saturday, April 17th QSFD held a farm rescue drill at Turning Point Dairy.

Members from Maple Ave Fire Department participated.

On April 22, Maple Ave Fire Department brought their ladder

truck to QSFD for a training drill.

Water Rescue Drill

On Saturday, July 18, 2009, QSFD along with Schuyler Hose, Malta Ridge, the South Glens Falls dive team and the Corinth dive team held a water rescue drill on Saratoga Lake.  The drill was held in the vicinity of Snake Hill in approximately 40 feet of water.  While the dive teams worked on their diving skills, Quaker Springs, Schuyler Hose and Malta Ridge worked on backboard skills in the water and practiced getting victims aboard their vessels. It was a very productive drill and we would like to thank all who participated.  In addition, we would like to thank the QSFD Auxiliary who provided breakfast and lunch for the participants.

Nine Firefighters attend MacBoston 18 Truck training

MacBoston 18 Truck presented a Firefighter Training Seminar on Saturday, February 21st, 2009 at South Glens Falls fire station.  The first half of the seminar addressed "Leadership under Fire" and was taught by Captain Jason Brezler, USMC.  The goal of the session was to equip fire officers with an innovative and improved perspective of incident command and leadership on the fire ground. This contributes to safe and effective fire and emergency operations.  The second half of the seminar addressed "Engine Company Operations" and focused on the overall importance of basic engine readiness, of getting the initial attack handling into proper position and applying the proper amount of water using the proper method of application.  Nine firefighters from QSFD attended the training seminar.
